Nomad began in 2011 as a coffee cart in London's markets. Jordi Mestre had spent two years behind London espresso bars, and the cart made him the “nomad barista”. He won the Spanish Barista Championship in 2012 and again in 2013, then brought the idea home to Barcelona.

In 2014 he opened Nomad Coffee Lab in Passatge Sert with Fran González, who is now partner and Head of Coffee. Since 2020 everything is roasted at Cal Nomad, a restored building on Carrer Marroc in Poblenou that holds the roastery, the cupping room and The Coffee Academy.

Today around 30 people roast for customers in 205 cities in more than 45 countries. Their Poblenou café, Frutas Selectas, is number 16 in The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026, the highest-ranked in Spain.
